As part of Council's commitment to responsible pet ownership we are seeking community input regarding the Orders Council adopted in 2010/2011 about the management and control of cats in public places and desexing requirements.

The orders currently under review were made as part of Council’s Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP) and are -

  • Cat Curfew – Cats are required to be kept on their owner’s property and not allowed to wander between the hours of 8pm to 6am.
  • Cat Prohibited Areas – Some of Councils Bushland reserves have environmental and wildlife significance and cats are not permitted in these restricted reserves at any time.
  • Compulsory Desexing – All cats and dogs being registered for the first time in Whitehorse are required to be desexed (unless exempt).

Council values community comment and feedback and asks that you consider completing an online survey about the orders outlined above and responsible pet ownership in general.

The Survey will be open from August 19th, 2019 and will close on September 19th, 2019.

If you would prefer to complete a hardcopy version of the survey, please email customer.service@whitehorse.vic.gov.au to request a copy.

Information and further detail about the Orders under review can be found online on Council’s Website.
