Our Road Map – Council Plan 2017-2021

Our Road Map is the document that guides Council spending and priorities. We want this Council’s plan to be driven by the community, which is why we are asking you:

What is the change you want to make for you, for your family, for your community?

Tell us below by clicking the 'submit your idea' button. You can also vote for ideas by pressing the 'vote' button. All registered users have 7 votes to put towards the ideas they support. To submit an idea, we will ask you to provide an email, postcode and your gender so we can ensure community participation is as representative as possible and to inform you about future steps in this process. This data is not shared with third parties.

Following the first round of consultation in February, Council will then hold a second round of consultation in April, before developing a draft plan for review.

I would like to see the white lines on roads etc properly kept up to date. This has been allowed to lapse quite severely.

I would like to see the council develop a long term plan to remove car traffic from central Wangaratta.

Save the Olympic Pool, open it for longer hours and have better pricing. Also remove the dangerous non functioning splash park and build a safer more reliable one with a new pool at the former Yarrunga Pool site.

I have heard that many years ago council proposed making Wangaratta Common Nature Conservation Reserve located on Greta in to a lake.
I think that a lake/park/playground would be fantastic on this site.
Its a massive piece of land & is basically unusable at the moment.
Being on a main road would make it an easy spot to find for tourist.
The Wodonga lake is a great example of a reasonable size lake with playground, dog park & walking track facilities all surrounding it.

We are already feeling the devastating effects of climate change in our region. Things are only going to continue along this road. Council should formally adopt a commitment towards adapting to and mitigating the effects of climate change. This should influence every decision council makes, for our future wellbeing.

More promotion of Indigenous history & culture to bring another avenue of Tourism. Indigenous tourism has taken off in other parts of Australia, it would be another attraction for the Rural City of Wangaratta. All can share in the rich & fascinating Indigenous history & culture of sacred and ancient Aboriginal ground. There are many such places within Bpangerang (Bangerang/Pangerang) Country in the RCOW. Scarred trees with bark peeled hundreds of years ago for Indigenous canoes, sculptures, head-dresses, vessels and pegboards to stretch possum skins on. Places for ceremony, lore, knowledge, language ...

Another river crossing to get traffic around the CBD, it can be a nightmare to get through town at certain times of the day. If there was another way around the CBD School buses and heavy transport wouldn't have to go down Faithful Street and Murphy Street.

Change the access to the multi storey carpark so that it is more accessible, surely losing a few parking spaces in Victoria Parade would be worth making this facility easier to use. On ANZAC day people everywhere and no parking available as you can't get to the carpark! We've been lumped with it surely it should be easy to use.

I would like Wangaratta to embrace the idea of being plastic bag free and work with the Boomerang bags group who are sewing bags to get out into the community.

I think council should be greening our streetscapes to reduce heat trapping in our urban environment. This would also make our living spaces more attractive and provide shade for street parking. I live in Yarrunga and I think we urgently need streetscaping works in this area.
