The Footscray Hockey Club is an 82 year old community organisation that moved to the McIvor Reserve in Yarraville (adjacent the Westgate Freeway), 23 years ago. At that time we had a total of 11 teams (no female teams, 1 veteran’s team, 5 junior teams). We now have a staggering 47 teams, including 9 ladies teams, six veterans teams (mens and women’s), and 25 junior teams!
We outgrew our pavilion at McIvor Reserve five years after moving there. It caters very poorly for females, people with disabilities, and just the average user / visitor who needs no more than good, appropriately sized and clean amenities.
The Maribyrnong Council are coming to our rescue, and will be re-furbishing our building next summer, but they have decreed that the Hockey Club must find the $40,000 - $50,000 required to fit-out the large kitchen / canteen spaces. This level of cost is understandable given the massive throughput that our facility caters to. In addition to providing for the sizeable community that is our own Club, our brilliantly located complex also hosts annual state, national and international hockey and lacrosse events. We are a ‘window to the west’, and we need to get these building basics up and running at the right levels.
The new fit-out will allow us to move beyond the normal array of pre-packaged foods into a much healthier selection including soups, salad rolls, sushi rolls, etc. Our storage, preparation, serving and clean-up dilemmas would be resolved. More importantly, these changes would place our volunteers (we operate for an average of 60 hours per week, often with 3-4 volunteers in the kitchen / canteen at a time) into a safe and comfortable working environment. We have dreamt of having a modern-day pavilion for many years, but the price-tag on the building fit-out is daunting. Any help that we can receive from the Federal Government via our community members supporting this application (we have requested $20,000) would be very gratefully appreciated.

I have two children involved in the junior teams at FHC. FHC is a wonderful inclusive club which has great history in the extended community.

Even though my son is not connected to this community, I can see the benefit to so many others who live local to this facility and club. Definitely supporting the committee in their application to upgrade their current facilities.

FHC is an great family/community friendly club and this badly needed investment towards the club is surely going to benefit the community for many years to come. Good luck Brendan and FHC!

My son has been a member for four years. The club has provided such a strong sense of belonging which is what all young people need!

I have 2 sons at the club and they love it. We consider ourselves fortunate to have such a community minded club in the area and any assistance to help it grow and prosper and engage positively with other kids in the area would be invaluable.

The club is an important part of our community. Our kids have played for 3 years now and rate it as their Number 1 activity! Even our 4 year old has started! We love FHC!

This club is very active in getting Local Juniors involved with this fantastic sport. All levels of skill are accommodated for and the club provides a great social network for more than 150 juniors under age 12.
