Protect the city’s parklands, grasslands and waterway - focus on retaining or improving existing natural environments in Moreland; helping to increase biodiversity.
The Merri Creek valley is a wonderful natural haven, but there is plenty more to be done: more weed control and indigenous planting, stormwater management to improve water quality, acquisition by Council of private frontages with redevelopment, protection of the Creek parklands from overdevelopment next-door, events and activities such as bush kinders to introduce all ages to local nature along the Creek.....
Moonee Ponds creek needs more care and planting. Agree completely that the groups and individuals who care for these nature assets could be supported more, especially with litter and hard rubbish removal .
Support the wildlife corridors of Moonee Ponds and Westbreen Creeks with plantings and maintenance of indigenous species. Celebrate and encourage the volunteer groups that have made a real difference to the biodiversity and amenity of our waterways.
Merri creek is always in need of more nurturing and care. It could be such a huge community asset, but needs some love.
More indigenous planting on creek to create increased habitat
More rain gardens
Love the work council has been doing with local communities along the merri creek
We need more rubbish traps as well to decrease litter
Better maintenance of Merri Creek in Fawkner area (especially middle and northern Fawkner). Increased indigenous plantings in order to increase biodiversity. A public education campaign around the value of our natural heritage areas with a view to building relationships between people and natural areas so that we value and protect them.
Support community gardening groups. Maintain the parks that we have. The council started work on Shore reserve but don't seem to maintain it. It's such a popular park and the new top end has become weed infested. I do a bit of weeding up there but there's so much weeding and upkeep to do. We need more bins, visitors trash the park when they visit and rubbish flies everywhere.
More infiltration raingardens to filter storm runoff water before it enters the creek.
