Playing in the Park

Forum is closed.

We would like to know what you want from the amazing public open spaces in Kingston Park.  What sort of playground facilities would you think will benefit the community?
What about pathways and other amenities in the space?

What is going to make you want to use the Park again and again?

A fenced play area like the new Bellerive one. Exactly like it. No other park compares.

Clean toilets that are serviced daily but locked at night to prevent vandalism and keep them nice like the ones at Lindisfarne Park.

Good lighting and security of an evening to prevent it from becoming an attraction for local drug users and sellers.

An animal free zone.

It would be great to have a proper Olympic size pool. For size of Kingston and surrounding suburbs it's hard to understand why we don't have our own. Parking at Kingston and Blackman's bay beaches is ridiculous in the summer. A pool could alleviate this issue as well as provide all round swimming opportunity for the community.

Royal Park Nature Playground in Melbourne would be a good place to start for ideas. Read all about it and look at all the photos you can. It shows that playgrounds don't have to be all about plastic, rubber matting and metal, that children enjoy interacting with natural materials and being creative while exercising and exploring.

A fenced area for off-leash dog exercise would be great

Please make at least some of it dog-friendly. Dogs need to be integrated with the community, not left at home in the backyard. Dogs left in the backyard are far more likely to be badly-mannered. Dogs are allowed pretty much everywhere (including on public transport, in restaurants and hotels) in the UK and much of Europe and there's rarely a problem because dogs are integrated and valued.

A fully fenced dog park with amenities for dogs and owners ie seating, water station, perhaps a separate area for little dogs.

being able to free the kids and exercise the family dog at the same time would ease a lot of time pressure for parents. Adding a fenced dog exercise area would be a most welcome addition.
