I would like to see a 'Lifetime', one off registration fee for all companion animals. This has been introduced in some other states and Councils. For many, the cost of registration can be a yearly burden and may be dropped entirely. I feel this would encourage more owners to register their animals. There would also be less criticism of the Council just engaging in 'revenue raising', although perhaps this is exactly the idea?
I would also suggest a much reduced registration fee for animals purchased from a recognised pound or eligible shelter to encourage more potential owners to choose animals from here.
