There's no doubt that 2020 has been a challenging year and it hasn't been easy for many in our community. As we work together to recover from COVID-19 we're keen to start 2021 on the right foot.
One of the big changes we're working on is a new way to engage the community to shape the future of Horsham. The first step is a new Community Engagement Policy to make it easier for everyone to participate in important conversations and provide input into big decisions about our community.
While we understand that a policy isn't the most exciting thing to have your say on, it is going to shape how we work together to develop a vision and plan for the future of Horsham. We'd really appreciate it if you took a few minutes and let us know if you think we've got it right.
Many sections of the policy such as the Introduction, Purpose, Scope and Responsible Officer are administrative in nature and therefore not open to change in response to community input. We are seeking comment on and suggested additions to the two main elements of the policy, the commitments and the principals.
It is these parts of the policy that guide council’s engagement activities. This part of the policy is available separately for download in the documents bar on the right of the page and immediately below to view on line. The entire policy is available for download in the documents bar on the right of the page.
You can make a submission via email or use our form. Links are available on the right of the page. Hard copies of the documents are available on request at the Civic Centre reception.
The Local Government Act 2020 (The Act) has specific requirements relating to community engagement and the content of Council’s Engagement Policy. Any changes to the policy in response to community input will need to result in a compliant policy. The relevant sections of The Act are available for download in the documents bar on the right of the page.
We will present to Council the results of the engagement for Council to decide on which commitments and principles should be included in the new policy to ensure that it is effective and compliant with the LGA 2020.
Submissions close Monday 25 January, 2021 at midday.
