I am simply a citizen concerned about the path our nation is taking. I do not work in nor have I been payed off by any industry with a vested interest in supporting or opposing the carbon tax, renewable energy or nuclear energy. I hold a bachelors degree and work as an Advanced Life Support Paramedic in a rural centre.
Russell asked the question: “Under the current welfare system, a couple that gets married and has a child is severely disadvantaged financially over a couple who are living together for years, even decades, have a child but never marry. what can be done to address this?”
Russell commented on Russell's question: “http://www.forbes.com/sites/jamesconca/2012/06/10/energys-deathprint-a-price-always-paid/ - a second and more reputable source showing nuclear is safer”
Russell commented on Russell's question: “designing a nuclear power plant to produce weapons grade uranium is inherently inefficient and must be commenced right at the blueprints stage, you cant simply stick your hand in and pull out a few spare rods and turn them indo a bomb. Not to mention THorium based nuclear power plants cannot produce weapons materials at all. NASA also extensively utilises nuclear fuel cells, and are you really going to support us hunting whales for fuel?”
Russell commented on Russell's question: “http://www.juandemariana.org/pdf/090327-employment-public-aid-renewable.pdf An interesting review of the spanish renewables bubble by a spanish university”
Russell commented on Russell's question: “Beyond zero emissions for hard facts? seriously? its almost as bad as the greens website as a source. I suggest you search "spanish renewables bubble" if u want to see what happened in spain. Measures in deaths per TWh of energy produced nuclear is far safer, inclusing mining, manufacturing, construction, operation, watse disposal and accidents (see here: http://nextbigfuture.com/2011/03/deaths-per-twh-by-energy-source.html). Need I poiunt out that NOONE had died as a result of three-mile island or Fukushima, whilst the collpase of the nearby...”
Russell commented on Tahlia's question: “I'm pretty sure that section of the constitution refers to the states which make up Australia, otherwise we would be bound to abide by the laws of every commonwealth nation in the world on any given issue.”
Russell commented on Russell's question: “Ben, thanks for your input, but the idea that wind and solar are sustainable is a farce, there isn't enough of the rare earth materials in the world to manufacture sufficient wind and solar to power the worlds current energy needs let alone the future, and far from giving free unlimited electricity current wind and PV technology lasts only 20-40years, depending on quality of manufacture. Australian companies are using there expertise to deploy clean, safe 4th generation uranium reactors internationally and are involved in the development of...”
Russell asked the question: “Prime Minister, you have made repeated claims that the carbon tax and the associated “clean energy finance corporation” are the cheapest ways for Australia to lower its greenhouse gas emissions. China is currently spending AU$8 Billion on a series of American designed nuclear bower plants that if built here to replace our brown coal power plants would reduce our CO2 emissions by around 20%. Meanwhile, the clean energy finance corporation with its budget of AU$10 Billion plus the carbon tax are only estimated to reduce our CO2 emissions by...”
Russell commented on Mark's question: “I would say that the time for "renewables" to prove themselves has been and gone. some european countries such as spain invested heavily in renewables over the last 10 years with minimal effect on their carbon dioxide output, and california has been subsidising renewables since the 80s and yet still only 2% of their electricity demand is supplied by it. Nuclear power is the only current technology capable of provide low emission baseload electricity, and emerging technologies in the field of nuclear power largely neutralise concerns about...”

Russell commented on Geoff's question: “THe Euro is a disaster, it started with a good intention - to make trade easier between europes big economies - but was taken over by political forces. As a consequence you ended up with all sorts of countries like greece being admitted that should never have been and dragging down the currency. Meanwhile countries like france and germany, europes economic powerhouses, got stuck with a failing economy as a result of the policies of another nation they had no control over. ”
Russell commented on Cameron's question: “Fairfax is failing because people don't like reading their newspapers? Nonsense it must be murdochs fault somehow! :P”
Russell commented on Geoff's question: “Or why not have a website that people can access for free with a wide variety of ABCs written, audio and video content available? It would be much cheaper than printing and distributing a newspaper. Oh wait they already have that... Also, without ads newspapers would be enormously expensive, this is why local newspapers devote the vast majority of their page space to advertisements.”
