Paul commented on Paul 's question: “Lots of people are very worried about this issue. they want to see a real commitment to closing this loophole. and even 'exceptional circumstances' is a dangerous concession. The only really exceptional circumstance is the separate defence of "self-defence". Please eliminate common law loopholes like "gay advance" and please prevent people from sneaking the issue in connected to 'general circumstances' or 'exceptional circumstances' as this would surely taint the whole consideration and make extreme violence an acceptable excuse which...”
Paul commented on Paul 's question: “The Government has released the report of the Committee that was looking into whether changes were needed to the law. The majority decided: changes needed. To me, this report indicates one major point we have been trying to say all along: one can put up all sorts of barriers to why things can’t be changed, or instead, one can decide that change is needed and set about working to overcome any difficulties and barriers. The 2 cases that occurred in my region are described in more detail. Please Have a read of those two cases, they are...”
Paul asked the question: “Will you close the loophole in Qld law that allows “gay panic” to be used as a defence to murder? An expert legal committee has recommended changes that will close the loophole unless there are “exceptional circumstances”, will you match the government’s commitment to implement the recommendations?”
Paul commented on Justin's question: “Speed is one of the fatal four factors. sometimes it is the major cause,.other times it is a contributory cause. people thinbk they are better drivers than they are and think they are free to ignore road rules and speeds. speeds of roads are set after careful consultation with road construction experts as well as main roads, etc. speed kills. speeders need to be caught and fined. it is not merely revenue raising and thats an old chestnut to minimise the issue. more speed cameras, more fines!!!!!! ”
Paul asked the question: “Mr Newman. There is an e-petition addressed to you and also members of Queensland Parliament asking for you to commit to eradicating the archaic common law partial defence of "gay advance" and the admission of evidence of gay advance buy the victim in cases of murder. The e-petition has some 20,000+ concerned people who have signed it already. Will you please make a pledge that if elected your government will eradicate this defence? the petition is at http://www.change.org/petitions/eliminate-the-gay-panic-defence-from-queensland-law-gaypanic...”
