Michael asked the question: “In our country 59% of people (Newspoll oct 2011) are against a tax on carbon pollution. My question is about the feasibility of a direct democracy, when polling shows people often resist necessary reforms. How do we find evidence that a direct democracy would produce better policy because isn't it contradictory if we use polling that shows support of progressive policies, whilst at the same time assuming away opposition polling as manipulated by propaganda?”
