John commented on Paul's question: “I agree with Paul, successive governments seem intent on turning this country into a nanny state, where you can't scratch your nose for fear of offending someone or breaking some stupid law. How do we turn this country back into a more self reliant bunch, where we don't need government interference, without the attendant increase in the number of public servants we must support to enforce these stupid laws.”
John asked the question: “I agree with many of the statements posted by others regarding the inordinate power that the Murdoch empire has over our news. But, do you not think that there is an even greater danger in allowing politicians to interfere with what can and can't be published. Our country has a strong tradition of freedom of speech, which seems to becoming progressively removed by "Nanny State" laws that limit our ability to speak our mind. Surely we are intelligent enough to accept or reject a point of view put to us either in the press or any other forum...”
John asked the question: “Wouldn't it be great if we could actually get back to in depth reporting on issues that matter, rather than the absolute drivel that is dished up to us each day - who cares about a shonky car dealer in Queensland, it will not affect the status of our nation. And, don't you think that the current garbage dished up by Today tonight and A current affair be of a sufficiently low standard to call for them to be charged with misleading advertising for daring to call it "Current Affairs"? the morning breakfast shows aren't much better”
