I am an outraged citizen. Why is the EPA allowing the laundering of toxic waste products from industry such as lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, and radioactive particles contained in fluoride waste, which are put in our water supply. Fluoride used for fluoridation purposes is not a pure pharmaceutical product. It has not passed the tests mandatory for all other products used for an effect on the human body. It has never been proven safe, and a mountain of studies from overseas show that it: causes damage to children's developing brains; causes bones to become brittle and increases incidence of hip fractures in the elderly; accumulates in the pineal gland, which controls sleep patterns and aging; and is damaging not only to the thyroid gland, but also is damaging to teeth. Most of the world has seen an improvement in dentition without fluoridation. There is absolutely no evidence that fluoride limits tooth decay. In fact fluoride contributes to tooth decay in some people. The fact that the EPA is ignoring the evidence from studies that show that fluoridation is harmful casts doubt on the scientific validity of the EPA. It is time to read the evidence. Fourteen or more recipients of the Nobel Prize for medical research, and thousands of doctors and members of the health professions have signed a document to say that fluoridation is against good medical practice. It is time for the EPA to conduct an in-depth study of this issue, using independent medical researchers and toxicologists. Colgate puts fluoride in its toothpaste. Colgate funds the dental schools in Australia. Is vested interest, monetary gain and politics the reason why the medical authorities in Australia have failed to prevent the pollution of our water supplies? Or is it stupidity and arrogance on the part of both the medical profession and members of state and federal parliaments? I ask for a truly scientific assessment of fluoridation without bias from the so-called Health Department.
