Why does not the Australian Parliament take over the issue of end-of-life decision-making, which affects every single citizen as well as the medical and nursing professions? Over 80 per cent of Australians believe that terminally ill people who request aid in dying should be granted it. Just the knowledge that an early release is possible would comfort most of us. Don't leave it to State governments to keep bumbling on and quoting inaccurate information. Institute an inquiry and establish how voluntary euthanasia works safely in Oregon, Washington, the Netherlands and other mature and civilised states.

As usual, we got the same old nothing response from Julia Gillard. This is just another, in a long procession of governments that has put voluntary euthanasia in the "too hard" basket.

Knowing that there is the option of Physician Assisted Dying actually prolongues life as people don't have to take action earlier while they are still about to do it themselves. I hope that this is a topic that you take up because there are a lot of people that don't have internet that can't tell you how important the topic is for them. effeaffects everyone

The denial of the right for citizens to choose voluntary euthanasia in the face of futile and intractable suffering is unconscionable.

As a person with an incurable disease, I am frightened that I will become too disabled to make this choice for myself. If I knew I could set it up in advance, then simply ask for PAD when my suffering grows too great, I could hang on for longer, and in less worry about leaving my family without warning or goodbyes or somehow legally incriminating them by my choice. The availability of PAD would significantly improve my quality and length of life, while also allowing my loved ones to be part of my decision and my last moments.

My family, my friends, my acquaintance circles all understand and empathize with my lifelong commitment to myself to have my individual right to die with dignity via PAD. They are all available to support me and understand this as necessary for my own peace of mind, that it is crucial for me to have as an option (which I fully intend to use) for when the time is right, whenever it may be. Why is my government, from among all of my social collectivities, the only blockade in my life that impedes me from my accessing this fundamental human right? I am not constrained by religion, so why should I endure this constraint by my government?

I challenge anyone to read Dr. Rodney Symes' book 'A Good Death' and remain opposed to concepts such as PAD. I can never understand how some seem to think they know more about someone elses suffering than does the sufferer themselves.

The question of Physician Assisted Dying needs to be openly addressed by our Governments. Providing people with safe and legal 'CHOICE' to end their lives when it is no longer possible to live a dignified physical existence must surely be a right for all individuals. Only the people who choose this option will use it and those who don't won't, so if safe laws are in place there is nothing to fear. The option to die with dignity will in fact help many people to die peacefully knowing that the end can be hastened if the going gets beyond endurance.

As a healthy person nearing the end of my life I want the choice to end my life with dignity if I experience prolonged suffering or my quality of life is seriously compromised. I don't want to see expensive health resources wasted on keeping me alive when I'm going to die pretty soon anyway.

If legislation allowed Physician Assisted Dying (PAD) then organs could be donated to people in great need of them. Given current legislation, if I wish to hasten my shuffling off this mortal coil, then my organs would not be fit for transplant by the time my body is discovered. Please let PAD be my choice, for my body, in my time. Thank you
