Good question, but please add your votes to the question 4 down from this, starting "why does not the the Australian Parliament take over the issue of end-of-life decision-making . . .". We need the weight of numbers on one question and that one is doing well.

We don't keep animals alive when their quality of life has diminished past the point of no return, why not afford humans the same courtesy?

A friend of mines mother was recently diagnosed with incurable bladder cancer and against her wishes to die they dragged her 'life' out for two weeks before she died a miserable death. Her family got the privilege of watching all of this happen and couldn't do anything to end her misery. This is not acceptable in a so called civilized world.
