What actions is the Australian government taking to support the Australian citizen, Julian Assange, who seems to being politically prosecuted for informing the public of what their governments are doing?

A government has protection of its citizens as its primary responsibility - regardless of whether it is politically advantageous to do so or not.

as a very stable and 'free democracy' we should be fighting for the same freedoms for the rest of the world... allowing julian assange to be persecuted & bradley manning to rot in solitary confinement is truly a pitiful global response by our povo govo to this massive issue.

So much for protecting whistleblowers and greater transparency of government. If democracy is to exist beyond name only then Julian assange's rights as an Australian citizen must be protected and defended by our government.
