I would like to ask just what, if any, are the advantages of being a republic. The movement appears to be driven by a desire to feel good about something for which I do not feel bad. And the changes it proposes appear to be entirely cosmetic. Currently a Governor General is appointed in accord with the wishes of the government of the day. The principal republican proposal is that a President be appointed in accord with the wishes of the government of the day. My 'yes' vote could only be secured if a major overhaul of the constitution was part and parcel of the deal and ensured the rights of citizens, accountability of elected officials, transparency of government processes and a slew of other 21st century reforms including an elected President.

This is a misleading question designed to get a 'click' of agreement by those too lazy to read the question through to it's end. Why does it appear so high in the list? 'OurSay' appears to be compromised in pushing a particular agenda.
