I like people and think Australia should attract migrants. I understand that boat people are desperate to come to Australia. I don't think it is fair or compassionate to exploit those desperate people, subjecting them to the predations of people smugglers and the risk of drowning. I think the Pacific Solution was the best suite of policies available and it was a murderous mistake to end that policy. Why won't the ALP admit their mistake in winding back the Pacific Solution?

Because they just can't, so the country must bear the costs of their mistake, as in so many of their policies. An astonishingly feckless and unintelligent bunch.
