Suicide ranks the leading cause of death for men aged 15-44 (ABS 2012). Only 13% of men receive care for their mental illness and current top 3 MBS services only attract less than a third of men. For men, the perception of mental health conditions is still largely stigmatised, hence the failure of current mental health services for men. Furthermore, the mental health strategies and policies in the country for each state & federally don't complement. What are your plans to tackle this problem considering we continue to lose at least 5 mates, brothers, fathers, husbands and uncles everyday?

Dear Julia, our men are taking their lives. We need you to incentivise innovation in the Mental Health sector: the path we are currently walking is not solving the problem. I don't know that you have the answer, but you have the keys to help Australia work harder to decrease this rate. 5 mates, every day. Our men need your help.

In the men suicide rate higher because there is no equal right of men and women. PM need to deal with this issue seriously. Under the definition of domestic violence, for example, women can easily and falsely accused men to have domestic violence against women and the men to be punished, but the women have domestic violence against men is ignored and the male victims become the loser, and be punished, of course they are much easily to have the higher suicide rate.

I am not against the premise of what the comment is suggesting but maybe if some of you are so concerned about suicide rates then dig into your own pockets and give money to a charity. It is very, very hard to stop people from committing suicide. I know someone who committed suicide earlier this year and I bet many of you people do as well.

We lose more men in this age range to suicide than to the roads and to drugs/alcohol. But all we see, is ads urging us to slow down (unless we have a tiny penis) and to think twice before drinking (whilst increasing tax). But where are the campaigns for suicide prevention, targeting better MH and chasing men (proverbially) to seek help to be removed from the path towards suicide. I guess it is simply too convenient to just ignore it.

Juila, They say thay charity begins at home, then why does the Govt and Society continue to ignore all of those suffering souls (of which I am one) who suffer from Mental Illness and in my case Childhood Sexual Abuse and especially males, where there are little if any support services available. I have been homeless for over a year now and there is little likelihood that Govt services will be able to assist me and the many of others in the same situation. So two questions: 1. Why does the Govt care more and spend more on Refugees than it does on its own people who are suffering through no fault of their own? We are also refugees in own country as a result of predators, yet receive none of the services or support that the overseas refugees recieve!!!! 2. When is the Govt (Federal and State) going to address the 'pathetic and outdated' Statute of Limitations law that allows these Religious Institutions and others to hide behind and avoid prosecution, acknowledgement and apologies for the extreme damage inflicted on these victims. Julia - you should know that in a recent survey, the cost of this abuse costs the Australian economy over $5 BILLION a year and this is only representative of those that have confronted their demons and come forward. Julia - IT IS TIME TO SOFTEN THE FCK UP AND PUT POLITICS ASIDE AND MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE. THIS COULD BE YOUR LEGACY TO THE AUSTRALIAN PEOPLE!!!!

My children lost their father to suicide at 6 & 9 yrs old. At 17 yrs of age my son, suffering severe depression had several suicidal episodes. I would call the police, ambulance, life line, yet no one was able to intervene. The best I could find was an appointment with a youth counselor in 2 days, or a Justice Enforcement Order which would have taken a week. He could have been dead. There was no one to help.

This issue needs to be addressed and needs to have resources thrown into it immediately. It affects so many men and women and we are losing people that did not need to be lost. We should be silent no longer.
