Should the youth of Australia be involved in the decision making process in any political issues that will have a direct effect on them or their future?

There's nothing to stop anybody lobbying their representatives, and all citizens can vote when they turn 18. The voting age should not be lowered.

I think compulsory voting is totalitarian but voting still should be encouraged. I believe there is a place for a proportional youth vote - perhaps 50% of adult vote impact fopr 16 to 17 year olds and 20 % for 13 to 15 year olds. Your country your future - you should have a say but it needs to be weighted against experience. Best thing though would be to scrap compulsory voting amongst apathetic adults who are too easily swayed by the media - it would increase the impact of the weighted youth vote :) Good on you for this initiative.

I agree that optional voting for 16 and 17 year olds would be a good thing.

I completely agree Teresa. I myself am 16 and am very interested in Australian politics, and i know that many other teenagers would like to be able to elect their leaders.
