The media is a powerful tool in our society's way of understanding the world around us. This places media companies in a particularly powerful position. Companies have also grown progressively larger over the past 60 years and as technology has progressed, media companies have acquired the ability to hub content from one location rather than staff multiple locations, meaning the ability for staff to find credible sources of information has been stretched thin. With the increase in power and decrease in local content production alongside the technological advances of the internet and its infamy for quick misinformation spreading alongside information spreading, do we need ethical guidelines to ensure the media (including internet) ensures citing sources for its information and avoids commercial bias?
