Avid user of OurSay, Geoff Pain successfully asked the number one question in the Bad News OurSay in October, 2011. This question was discussed at a classic Readings bookstore event, where three high profile commentators discussed, “Why not enhance the ABC’s Charter to include production and distribution of a newspaper?”
OurSay also promised to organise a coffee for Pain with academic and author of the Quarterly Essay, “Bad News” Robert Manne. Click here for a transcript of their conversation on our blog.
“Why not enhance the ABC's Charter to include production and distribution of a newspaper? It would allow us to read the full reports of the ABC's worldwide reporters' strength. I think it should be almost free of advertising, except for ABC shop and events such as concerts and radio/TV guide. With virtually no ads, it would be physically small, perhaps even A4 size, easily disributed (or printed to demand in remote locations), via Australia Post Offices and public transport stations. With low production and distribution costs, it would be cheap to buy - perhaps leading to broader readership, education of the masses and empowerment through knowledge. ”
