“Why do AFL players continually complain about their pay and conditions, when the average salary for their profession is more than three times that of the average Australian worker?”
If AFL players could work for the 40+ years then they would only need a regular salary. Unfortunately many are lucky to see 10 years in the game and only a very small number get a long term career in the Football industry after their active careers are over. In that case I think that you have to give them more money, or alternatively put a whole lot more into a fund for those who need support later in life.
I think their complaints aren't necessarily about the amount, but more so that the CEO of the AFL and people associated with the TV rights deals are taking a significant and skewed percentage that should essentially be afforded to them- given they provide the entertainment.
